My Black Beauty

This is a desk that had been in an upstairs room at my mother's house. I loved the carved designs and when I saw it I knew it wanted to be painted black.
So I got my Martha Stewart paint sample that I got on sale for $1.00 at my Home Depot. I made up my DIY chalk paint and got to painting. First I did a little sanding then painted. After the paint dried, I began to distress, I concentrated on the areas around the carvings. Then I applied my Fiddes & Sons wax, let it dry and then I buffed. It still looked a little dull to me
so I decided to spray it with a poly clear coat and replaced the old hardware with some pretty glass knobs.I'm loving it and am very proud of my black beauty.

  1. I love that style of furniture. And the glass knobs look great against the black.

  3. I found your blog on Find A Friend Friday. I enjoy your piece in black. I think our styles are very similar...finding items and turning them into treasures. If you have a chance, check out my site: www.myhouseredressing.blogspot.com.

    Have a great holiday!
