My Black Beauty

This is a desk that had been in an upstairs room at my mother's house. I loved the carved designs and when I saw it I knew it wanted to be painted black.
So I got my Martha Stewart paint sample that I got on sale for $1.00 at my Home Depot. I made up my DIY chalk paint and got to painting. First I did a little sanding then painted. After the paint dried, I began to distress, I concentrated on the areas around the carvings. Then I applied my Fiddes & Sons wax, let it dry and then I buffed. It still looked a little dull to me
so I decided to spray it with a poly clear coat and replaced the old hardware with some pretty glass knobs.I'm loving it and am very proud of my black beauty.

Ugly Duckling to Beautiful Swan

This is a story about an Ugly Duckling (dresser) I've had hiding in an upstairs bedroom for 10 years. I decided it was time for her extreme makeover and public debut. Here's the problem, I did remember to take before pictures, but I deleted them from my camera. so for reference I will show you her sister who is patiently waiting for her makeover.
This will give you some idea of how the Ugly Duckling looked before. I decided she would be a dainty little flower just begging to hold some sweet little princess' wardrobe. I painted the body with an homemade off white chalk paint. I wanted the drawers to stand out so I mixed up some homemade pink chalk paint and used that for the drawers. You notice I have no idea of the names of colors of the paint I used, because this was one of my first projects and I was using whatever paint Home Depot had on there "oops" shelf. Then I decided she needed just a little extra touch to make her special, so I decided to stencil around the holes where the knobs would go.
The knobs are the originals and are beautiful, so I put them back where they belonged. And here is the Beautiful Swan in all her glory, but still hiding upstairs in the bonus room. Oh well, maybe someday she will get the appreciation she deserves.
Oh by the way, the top is marble and I couldn't get the picture to reflect the true color of it. It looks very orangish in the photo but it is actually a creamy gray color. Sorry, still working on my photography skills.

How Did You Celebrate your 40th Bday?

Yesterday I blogged about how I celebrated my 40th bday. It got me thinking, I was wondering how you all celebrated the big 4-0? Comment now and let me know. Can't wait to hear.

My 40th Birthday

Last week was my 40th birthday. WHAT? It just doesn't sound right coming out of my mouth. Anyway, I got to go out to one of my favorite eats, Olive Garden, with some of my favorite people. That's me in the middle, my beautiful and amazing sis-in-law Jennifer on the left, and my also beautiful and wonderful BFF Heather on the right. Oh yea, our husbands were there too! I also had my haircut for my bday, 9 inches gone. That's right ,I said 9 inches. I am donating it to make wigs for cancer patients. A wonderful birthday gift to myself to give to others. Thanks to everyone who made 40 a little less painful, I couldn't do it without you.

Still trying to figure this whole blog thing out

Ok, this blog thing is totally confusing to me. I got a new computer for Christmas and Wi-Fi(thank you, thank you, thank you.) So I am trying to work on my blog. I am about as computer illiterate as they come so hopefully I will eventually get this thing going.

My First Post To My First Blog

Hello everyone out there. My name is Amy and this is my first post to Bountiful Blessings. I have become addicted to all the blogs out there dedicated to crafting, painting and thrifting. I have been doing a little of all three  and decided to try my hand at this blogging thing! I am going to upload pictures of some of my projects. I would love to hear from anyone out there with these same interests so I can get this blog rolling along. God bless you all.
